Lacrosse the Nations (LtN)

January 18, 2019

Lacrosse the Nations (LtN) is a U.S. sport for development organization that unifies the lacrosse community to sustainably improve education and health while creating opportunity and hope for children across the world.

To achieve this mission, LtN runs after-school lacrosse programming for youth in underserved communities in Nicaragua and Panama, teaches life skills through an original curriculum, and provides academic support to its players, volunteers, and coaches.

Take Michael for instance. Michael attended classes at LtN’s partner school in Managua, Nicaragua. In 2017 during Lacrosse the Nations’ practices at his school, Michael sat yards away, working with his mom in the school’s concession stand to help support his family. After months of watching with curiosity, one day Michael asked LtN’s upper school Coach Juan if he could try it out. Despite not being able to attend the majority of practices due to work, Coach Juan encouraged Michael to join the team.

Shortly after, Michael entered LtN’s Scholars Program, receiving all uniform and school supplies needed for his last academic year. In 2018, Michael's mom did not have to worry about his school expenses, and Michael did not have to work in the school’s concession stand. In his senior year, Michael’s mom watched him compete in the LtN Cup (LtN’s annual end of year tournament) and watched him graduate high school alongside his fellow teammates and LtN Scholars.

In addition to LtN’s academic and athletic programming, LtN provides unique volunteer opportunities to youth in the U.S., encouraging lacrosse players to discover the benefits of serving others through a sport they know and love, and engaging their local and international communities for positive change.
